Incoming Quality Inspector

In this position you will be reporting directly to Quality Lead - Assembly and will be responsible for manufacturing quality readiness of the Welland facility. You will support quality processes related to the inspection of incoming material for new unit production and collaborate cross-functionally within the Waukesha business unit. You will utilize and expand your understanding of quality theories, analytical practices, continuous improvement concepts, and coordination principles in all parts of the manufacturing function pertaining to incoming material Quality. You will be tasked with managing and executing various inspection, measurement, and/or validation activities for a vast variety of both mechanical and electronic based components, and compile, create, and communicate nonconformance data as needed.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Responsible for carrying out both proactive and reactive incoming inspection of parts received from suppliers to a specific criterion.
  • Interpret technical drawing requirements and be knowledgeable with GD&T.
  • Should be aware of standard sampling plans for Inspection based on Variable and Attribute sampling plans as per ISO.
  • Compile evidence and technical details pertaining to a nonconformance and convey such to relevant stakeholders (i.e. SQEs, material planners, operations, etc.).
  • Utilise various measuring instruments/tools/gages and metrology concepts to verify feature conformity.
  • Execute ERP transactions related to Quality and inventory management.
  • Leverage quality concepts & tools such as Kaizen, 8D, DMAIC, 5 why, etc.
  • Work cross functionally with the production shop floor and support teams at the Welland site to share best practices, coordinate quality developments and support quality initiatives and projects.
  • Support and/or conduct both internal and external process audits within our production to maintain and meet ISO compliance.
  • Support the identification of quality related issues and help to coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Ensure all quality reports and documents are accurately maintained and the data presented is clearly communicated. 
 Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and 3+ years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 1+ years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • University degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
  • Fluent ability to interpret technical engineering drawings and GD&T principles, and conduct calculations as needed.
  • Related quality work experience in a manufacturing environment (Aerospace or Automotive would be an asset).
  • ASQ "Certified Quality Engineer" or “Certified Quality Inspector” certification an asset.
  • Knowledge of SPC, Six Sigma techniques, Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, and quality problem solving principals (8D, DMAIC, etc.)
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Flexible to work in shifts.
  • Strong mechanical inclination & work experience with conducting hands-on repairs on mechanical and/or electronic systems considered an asset.
